Fixed departures if you like company and a set route; private tours if you would rather decide everything yourself. The guides and the standards are the same.
Our flagship
One departure every month from April to October. A single route across the whole country: Transylvania, Bucovina, Maramureș and the Danube, at a pace that lets you talk to people instead of photographing them from a window.
Three to seven days
Shorter routes for travellers who already know where they want to go: the Saxon citadels, the painted monasteries, the mountain roads. Fixed dates or private departures, as you prefer.
One day, from Bucharest
You have one free day in Bucharest and you want to use it well. We leave in the morning and are back the same evening — castles, monasteries, the mountains or a village lunch.
Romania is the size of the United Kingdom and takes a while to cross. These are the six things people remember afterwards.
Bran Castle, tied to the Dracula story; Peleș, the summer residence of the Romanian kings; the medieval citadel of Sighișoara, still lived in; the Palace of Culture in Iași.
In Bucovina the church walls are painted on the outside, in colours that have held for five hundred years. In Maramureș the churches are built entirely of wood, with spires that reach sixty metres.
A mountain range that crosses the country, with forests where bears still live, and a road built across the ridge at over two thousand metres. Open from June to October, weather permitting.
Where the Danube meets the Black Sea: reed channels, fishing villages you reach only by boat, and more than three hundred species of birds. Europe has nothing else like it.
Not open-air museums: villages where the hay is still cut by hand, the bread is baked at home and the gate is carved by the man who lives behind it. We stay in guesthouses, with the families.
Sarmale, mămăligă, mici, plum brandy and wines from cellars that have been in the same family for generations. Most of our meals are at a table with the people who cooked them.
Luxuria Travel is a family business in Bucharest. We started by taking Romanians abroad, and we know exactly how it feels to arrive somewhere and be handed to a guide who is reading from a sheet.
So we do it the other way round. Our groups are small. Our guides are people from the places you visit. What is included is written down, in full, before you pay — meals, entrances, transfers and guiding. There is nothing to be collected from you on the coach.
We are a licensed Romanian tour operator, we invoice in euro, and someone from the office answers the phone while you are in the country, not only while you are booking.
